Diego Marrero is a Mining Engineer and, as principal consultant, he leads the mining team at SRK Argentina. Diego has more than fifteen years of experience in diverse stages of mining projects, from pre-feasibility to mine closure, including operations planning, supervision and management of mines and quarries in production, planning and management of affected areas. His recent experience includes geoenvironmental characterization of waste and design of conventional and co-disposal waste dumps, due diligences in lithium brine and hard rock mine projects, stability assessment in stopes, open pit slopes and roads in mountainous areas. Diego is also involved in assisting engineers of record of leach pads, tailings dams and waste dumps. He has participated in safety reviews (DSR) of tailings dams and remediation of areas affected by wind transportation of tailings. In his professional career, Diego has designed, supervised and managed world class mining operations in gold mining and small scale limestone excavation for the cement industry. He also has experience in explosives handling, design and execution of open pit and underground blasting, design, commissioning, and management explosives.
The presentation reviews the difficulties observed in the collection and interpretation of geotechnical data at different stages of mining projects and their impact on design and operation.
