The speaker in this presentation is Mr. Emilio Escobar. Emilio graduated from Civil Engineering from the Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería in Bogotá, Colombia. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Mining Engineering from the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois, United States. Emilio has had several roles in consulting engineering and mining operations in Colombia as well as in B2B sales of large mining equipment in different parts of the world. He is currently the Business Manager for the Coletanche product line in Latin America for the French company Axter, based in Santiago, Chile.
The presentation begins with the list of mining facilities that must be waterproofed to prevent contamination of the environment and presents the characteristics that a geomembrane must have for application in the mining industry. Then the inherent properties of bituminous geomembranes are described that make them a very versatile and cost-effective solution for waterproofing large surfaces in mining. Finally, several examples of successful use of bituminous geomembrane in different applications in mining projects in Latin America during the last 15 years are presented.
